Prenatal Massage

Massage during normal pregnancy helps alleviate stress on the weight bearing joints of the hips, pelvis, knees, and ankles, and relieves soreness in the muscles that are supporting the additional weight of the baby. Massage helps to soothe and ease sore muscles throughout the neck, back and hips. Massage helps to ease pressure and pain to the nervous system, including the sciatic nerve. Massage provides a nurturing, soothing touch, which promotes release of emotional and physical tension. Special bolsters allow for the mother to relax in comfort while receiving some pampering herself.

Labor Support

As a labor support provider, I accompany you during active labor to help ensure a safe and satisfying birth experience. I draw on my education and experience to provide emotional support, physical comfort, and information you need to make informed decisions in labor. I can provide reassurance and perspective to you and your partner, make suggestions for labor progress, and help with relaxation, massage, positioning and other techniques for comfort. I am independent and self-employed, working for you, not your caregiver or hospital. I will be available to you on call by cell phone 24 hours a day from the 37th week of your pregnancy until the baby is born. In the event of an induced labor, I will be available when active labor begins, which can be several hours after the administration of pitocin or the rupturing of the membranes.

I will remain with you until shortly after the physician has left, and you are comfortable, breastfeeding (if you desire), and your family is ready for quiet time together. I am available by phone to answer questions you may have about the birth of your baby.

What a labor support provider does not do:

Perform clinical tasks, such as blood pressure, fetal heart checks, vaginal exams, etc. I am there to provide only physical comfort, emotional support, and encouragement.
Make decisions for you. I will help you get the information necessary to make an informed decision, and will remind you if there is a departure or detour from your Birth Plan, however you are responsible for making you own decisions.
Speak to the staff on your behalf. I will discuss your concerns with you and suggest options, but you or your partner must speak on your behalf to the medical staff.
